C-C Motif Chemokine Receptor 3-Mediated Extracellular Signal-Regulated Kinase 1/2 and p38 Mitogen-Activated Protein Kinase Signaling: Promising Targets for Human Airway Epithelial Mucin 5AC Induction by Eotaxin-2 and Eotaxin-3.
Eotaxin-2 and -3 of the C-C chemokine subfamily function as potent chemoattractant factors for eosinophil recruitment and various immune responses in allergic and inflammatory airway diseases. Mucin 5AC (MUC5AC), a major gel-forming secretory mucin, is overexpressed in airway inflammation. However, the association between mucin secretion and eotaxin-2/3 expression in the upper and lower airway epithelial cells has not been fully elucidated. Therefore, in this study, we investigated the effects of eotaxin-2/3 on MUC5AC expression and its potential signaling mediators.Sooyeon Jo, Hyung Gyun Na, Yoon Seok Choi, Chang Hoon Bae, Si-Youn Song, Yong-Dae Kim

The Effect of IL-35 on the Expression of Nasal Epithelial-Derived Proinflammatory Cytokines.
Airway epithelium plays an important role during the development of allergic rhinitis (AR), which is characterized by production of thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP), interleukin 33 (IL-33), and interleukin 25 (IL-25). IL-35, mainly expressed by Treg cells, have negative regulation in Th2, Th17, and ILC2 inflammation. However, the effect of IL-35 on human nasal epithelial cells (HNECs) especially the secretion of nasal epithelial-derived proinflammatory cytokines as well as the possible mechanism is still unclear.Mingrong Nie, Qingxiang Zeng, Luo Xi, Yiquan Tang, Renzhong Luo, Wenlong Liu

Elevated chemokines and cytokines for eosinophils in neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders.
Eosinophil infiltration is one of the distinctive features in neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders (NMOSD) but not in other demyelinating diseases including multiple sclerosis (MS). Eosinophils express the chemokine receptor CCR3, which is activated by eotaxins (eotaxin-1, -2, and -3) and monocyte chemoattractant protein (MCP)-4. We aimed to investigate the role of MCPs (MCP-1, -2, -3, and -4) and eotaxins in the acute phase of NMOSD.Li Du, Haoxiao Chang, Wangshu Xu, Xinghu Zhang, Linlin Yin

Transforming growth factor-β1 and eosinophil-derived neurotoxins contribute to the development of work-related respiratory symptoms in bakery workers.
In baker's asthma previous studies suggest that adaptive and innate immunity are involved in the development of work-related respiratory symptoms (WRS), where we hypothesized that epithelial cells derive airway inflammation through modulating the release of inflammatory cytokines. Thus, we conducted this study to investigate the role of epithelial cell-derived cytokines in the development of WRS among bakery workers.Hoang Kim Tu Trinh, Bastsetseg Ulambayar, Thi Bich Tra Cao, Eun-Mi Yang, So-Hee Lee, Hae-Sim Park
