Pre-eclamptic foetal programming predisposes offspring to hepatic steatosis via DNA methylation.

Gamete and embryo-foetal origins of adult diseases hypothesis proposes that adulthood chronic disorders are associated with adverse foetal and early life traits. Our study aimed to characterise developmental changes and underlying mechanisms of metabolic disorders in offspring of pre-eclampsia (PE) programmed pregnancy.

Constipation anti-aging effects by dairy-based lactic acid bacteria.

Constipation, which refers to difficulties in defecation and infrequent bowel movement in emptying the gastrointestinal system that ultimately produces hardened fecal matters, is a health concern in livestock and aging animals. The present study aimed to evaluate the potential effects of dairy-isolated lactic acid bacteria (LAB) strains to alleviate constipation as an alternative therapeutic intervention for constipation treatment in the aging model. Rats were aged via daily subcutaneous injection of D-galactose (600 mg/body weight [kg]), prior to induction of constipation via oral administration of loperamide hydrochloride (5 mg/body weight [kg]). LAB strains ( USM 4189 or USM 4187) were administered daily via oral gavage (1 × 10 Log CFU/day) while the control group received sterile saline. Aged rats as shown with shorter telomere lengths exhibited increased fecal bulk and soften fecal upon administration of LAB strains amid constipation as observed using the Bristol Stool Chart, accompanied by a higher fecal moisture content as compared to the control ( < 0.05). Fecal water-soluble metabolite profiles showed a reduced concentration of threonine upon administration of LAB strains compared to the control ( < 0.05). Histopathological analysis also showed that the administration of LAB strains contributed to a higher colonic goblet cell count as compared to the control ( < 0.05). The present study illustrates the potential of dairy-sourced LAB strains as probiotics to ameliorate the adverse effect of constipation amid aging, and as a potential dietary intervention strategy for dairy foods including yogurt and cheese.

-Fluorosulfonyl Guanidine: An Entry to -Guanyl Sulfamides and Sulfamates.

Here, we present the straightforward synthesis of -fluorosulfonyl guanidine () from two industrial feedstocks, guanidine hydrochloride and sulfuryl fluoride (SOF), using SuFEx chemistry. Compound exhibits excellent stability under ambient conditions and displays unique SuFEx reactivity toward amines and phenols to generate -guanyl sulfamides and sulfamates that have rarely been accessed. Notably, water serves as an effective solvent in this process. Our protocol provides a reliable pathway for the synthesis and investigation of these novel guanidine-containing molecules.

Highly sensitive "off-on" sensor based on MXene and magnetic microspheres for simultaneous detection of lung cancer biomarkers - Neuron specific enolase and carcinoembryonic antigen.

In this work, a highly sensitive lung cancer biomarkers detection probe was developed based on Ag and MXene co-functionalized magnetic microspheres. By using carboxyl magnetic microspheres as carrier, MXene was coated repeatedly by Poly (allylamine hydrochloride) (PAH) as interlayer adhesive, and silver particles grown on the surface of MXene in situ can efficiently improve the sensitivity of the probe. The detection of neuron specific enolase (NSE) is mainly through the formation of a specific complex between NSE antigen and antibody, and the release of antibody labeled with amino carbon quantum dots (CQDs) from the surface of Ag nanoparticles (AgNPs), so that the fluorescence is restored and "OFF-ON" is formed. The biosensor exhibits excellently wide linear range (0.0001-1500 ng/mL) and the limit of detection (LOD) is up to 0.03 pg/mL, which is superior to most tumor marker probes based on fluorescence mechanism. Furthermore, we constructed dual detection strategy for NSE and carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) simultaneously.

Blocking sphingosine 1-phosphate receptor 1 with modulators reduces immune cells infiltration and alleviates endometriosis in mice.

Do sphingosine 1-phosphate (S1P) modulators have therapeutic effects on endometriosis in mice and, if they do, which receptor is responsible for these effects?

Dissipation of twelve organic micropollutants in three different soils: Effect of soil characteristics and microbial composition.

The dissipation kinetics and half-lives of selected organic micropollutants, including pharmaceuticals and others, were systematically investigated and compared among different soil types. While some pollutants (e.g., atorvastatin, valsartan, and bisphenol S) disappeared rapidly in all the tested soils, many of them (e.g., telmisartan, memantine, venlafaxine, and azithromycin) remained persistent. Irrespective of the soil characteristics, venlafaxine showed the lowest dissipation kinetics and the longest half-lives (250 to approximately 500 days) among the stable compounds. The highest first and second-order kinetics were, however, recorded for valsartan (k; 0.262 day) and atorvastatin (k; 33.8 g μg day) respectively. Nevertheless, more than 90% (i.e., DT) of all the rapidly dissipated compounds (i.e., atorvastatin, bisphenol S, and valsartan) disappeared from the tested soils within a short timescale (i.e., 5-36 days). Dissipation of pollutants that are more susceptible to microbial degradation (e.g., atorvastatin, bisphenol S, and valsartan) seems to be slower for soils possessing the lowest microbial biomass C (C) and total phospholipid fatty acids (PLFA), which also found statistically significant. Our results revealing the persistence of several organic pollutants in agricultural soils, which might impact the quality of these soils, the groundwater, and eventually on the related biota, is of high environmental significance.
